The Spokane Child Development Center Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP)

ECEAP is a state funded “whole child” preschool program that provides free services and support to eligible children and their families. The goal of the program is to ensure that all Washington children enter Kindergarten ready to succeed. The program includes: early learning preschool, family support and parent involvement, and child health and nutrition coordination. Children are eligible for ECEAP based on the child’s age, family income, or family risk factors. More information can be found at the Department of Early Learning (DEL) website.

FREE PRESCHOOL: There is never a charge for ECEAP services, which are administered by The Community Colleges of Spokane. No parent will be requested or required to contribute money, food or supplies with a monetary value. Parents are encouraged to volunteer time, but are not required to.

ATTENDANCE: In preparing for Kindergarten, it is essential that attendance is as close to 100% as possible. Attendance in ECEAP is required to be at least 85%, which means that each child needs to attend at least 4 out of every 5 service days. Notification from families about absences is required.

FAMILY PARTNERSHIPS: Parents are viewed as partners of the staff and are involved in decision making within the program. Staff members may make home visits 2-3 times per year to support parents as the primary educators of their children. Parents are also encouraged to participate in Policy Council , ECEAP activities and Parent Education classes provided by SCDC.

HEALTH CURRICULUM: Children receive routine health screenings and are taught good health practices in the classroom. The health curriculum includes hand washing, tooth brushing, nutritious meal service, infectious disease control and classroom and playground safety. ECEAP requires current physical and dental exams and updates to immunizations.

NO EXPULSION: Spokane Child Development Center ECEAP maintains a no expulsion policy in accordance with the ECEAP performance standards. Our staff will exhaust every effort to make sure that your ECEAP experience is successful for both the child and the family.

We currently have ECEAP slots in our Eagles Classroom and Pathfinders Classroom. These slots include part day and school day slots.
